How to Use the Customs VAT & Duty Calculator:

1. Select Product Currency:

Choose the currency in which your product value is priced (USD, EUR, or GBP).

2. Enter Exchange Rate:

If your product is priced in a currency other than GBP, input the current exchange rate to GBP. For example, if your product is priced in USD and the exchange rate is 0.80 GBP/USD, enter “0.80” in the exchange rate field. This will convert the product’s value, shipping cost, and insurance cost into GBP for accurate calculations.

3. Enter Product Value:

Input the value of the product being imported. This is the price of the product before any shipping or insurance costs.

4. Add Shipping & Insurance Costs (Optional):

Include any additional shipping and insurance costs. These will also be converted to GBP using the exchange rate you provided.

5. Input VAT Rate:

Enter the applicable VAT rate for the product. For the UK, the standard VAT rate is 20%, but this can be customized based on the specific import requirements.

6. Select the Country of Origin:

From the dropdown menu, select the country where the product is originating. The tool will automatically apply the correct customs duty rate based on the selected country. For example:

EU countries: 0% duty (preferential tariff)

USA: 5% duty

Canada: 2% duty

China: 10% duty

GSP Countries (India, Pakistan): 3% duty

7. Adjust Customs Duty Rate (Optional):

You can manually adjust the duty rate if needed. For instance, if you have a special trade agreement that offers a different duty rate than the one automatically applied based on the country of origin, simply enter the new rate.

8. Click ‘Calculate’:

After filling in all the fields, click the “Calculate” button to see the breakdown of your import costs, including the converted value, customs duty, VAT payable, and the total amount due.

9. Review Results:

The results will show the converted product value, total value (including shipping and insurance), applicable customs duty, VAT payable, and the total amount payable (including VAT and duty).

1. Predefined Tariff Preferences:

The tool includes a list of predefined tariff preferences for various countries and regions, such as the European Union (0% duty), USA (5% duty), Canada (2% duty), China (10% duty), and GSP countries like India and Pakistan (3% duty).

These preferences are based on typical trade agreements and international tariff policies. However, the duty rate can be manually adjusted if needed.

2. How to Adjust Duty Rates:

While the tool automatically applies the appropriate customs duty rate based on the country of origin, you can manually override this rate if your specific situation requires a different rate.

To adjust the duty rate, simply input your desired percentage in the Customs Duty Rate field. The tool will use this custom rate for calculations.
